Tampa Medicare Supplements

Those that qualify for Medicare can often get reduced costs for their medical care, but that doesn’t mean that every service that they need will be covered by Medicare. There are some services that are not covered and some services that are only partially covered. In those instances, it is best to have Medicare supplement insurance, often referred to as Medigap, to help you pay for any of the medical expenses that you cannot pay for out of pocket. The “gap” in Medigap refers to the gap in services that are not covered by Medicare.
Who Can Receive Medicare Supplements?
In order to receive Medicare supplement insurance, you have to qualify for Medicare and you have to be enrolled in part A and part B of Medicare. Medigap insurance is provided by private companies, not a government agency, so they might require you to have a physical to determine if you have any ailments that might disqualify you for a policy. There is a period of open enrollment, though, when you can get Medicare supplement insurance on a guaranteed issue basis, which means that you do not have to participate in any medical screenings to qualify. This period typically begins three months before your 65 th birthday and ends three months after your birthday has passed.
How Much do Medicare Supplements Cost?
Currently there are twelve different Medicare supplement plans (each is label as A through L). These plans offer different levels of service and protect the policy holder from different types of medical fees. Typically, if you choose a plan that gives you more services, then you will have to pay more for that plan. The amount of money that you pay, though, can also depend on your current state of health and your age. It is important to remember that Medicare supplement insurance is purchased through private companies. While there are government regulations that influence the Medigap plans’ services and costs, these regulations often vary from state to state. The combination of different plans, state regulations, and your individual state of health makes it impossible to say exactly how much a policy will cost, but you can generally expect more services to cost you more money.
Do Medicare Supplements Cover Drug Costs?
Prior to 2006, some Medigap policies included drug coverage, but those that are sold today do not include prescription coverage because Medicare began its Medicare Part D program that covers these costs. Those that purchased policies hat included prescription coverage before 2006 might still be able to receive these benefits today, but it is at the discretion of the private insurance company that provides the insurance.
Medicare supplement insurance can be useful for those that find Medicare insufficient at covering all of their medical expenses. By applying for Medicare and Medigap insurance, many people have found that they can control the costs of their medical expenses without spending all of the money that they have saved. Of course, you must research the different plans that are offered in order to find the one that best suits your needs and budget, but finding the plan that is right for you can greatly reduce the burden of high medical costs.
